Update of Results on Saturday, Sept. 22
SALEM, ORE. -- It's a busy Saturday for Willamette University athletics. Here's an update of results so far. In cross country, Maya Velez was Willamette's top finisher in the women's 6K race at the Bear Fete Invitational, hosted by George Fox University. Velez recorded a time of 24:01.80 and placed 20th overall, 16th among scorers. WU was sixth in the team standings. Chris Platano led the WU men's team with a seventh place finish (6th among scorers), as he completed the course in 26:05.10.
Willamette competed with partial squads in men's and women's cross country on Saturday. The Bearcats will host the Charles Bowles Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 29.
In women's soccer, Whitworth defeated Willamette, 2-1, as the Pirates broke a 1-1 halftime tie with a goal at 72:56. Alex Batzer score Willamette's goal on a 15-yard shot to the upper right corner of the goal. Haley Rosenthal earned an assist on the play, which began with Rosenthal taking a corner kick.
In men's soccer, Whitworth defeated Willamette, 3-0. Whitworth led 1-0 at halftime, then added goals at 59:05 and 73:33.
In volleyball, Whitman defeated the Bearcats, 3-1. Game scores were 30-26, 30-26, 25-30, 30-21.
The WU men's tennis team is competing at the Wilson/ITA Small College Regional at Linfield College. Results from Saturday were not yet available. Also, results are not yet available for the men's golf team competing at the NWC South Five-Way #1, being hosted by Pacific University at Quail Valley in Banks, Ore.
