WU Golfers Finish Third at NWC Five-Way #1
BANKS, ORE. -- Willamette University's men's golf team took third place at the Northwest Conference Five-Way #1, hosted by Pacific University at Quail Valley Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 22. Linfield College won the team title with a score of 309. Pacific finished in second place at 311 and was followed by Willamette at 345. George Fox University and Lewis & Clark University tied for fourth place at 368.
In the medalist competition, Taryn Braseth of Pacific claimed first place with a score of 73 (36-37). Joel Rychard of Linfield was second with a 74 (37-37) and Max Bonk from Pacific was third with a 75 (34-41). Willamette's top finisher was Robbie Beard (So., Yankton, SD/Yankton HS), who tied for eighth place at 82 (38-44).
Bonk's 34 was the lowest score for the front nine. Braseth carded a 37 for the lowest score on the back nine. Shane Adversalo (So., Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School) of Willamette recorded a 39 for the final nine holes to share a three-way tie for the third-best score on the back nine. Adversalo concluded the round with an overall score of 84.
Also competing for Willamette were Kevin Burfeind (Fr., Kalispell, MT), Dave Bennett (Sr., Coos Bay, OR/Marshfield HS), Alex Bennett (So., Sammamish, WA), and Taylor Buchheit (Fr., Silverton, OR). Burfeind finished with a score of 89 (44-45), while Dave Bennett registered a score of 90 (44-46). Alex Bennett shot 93 (43-50) and Buchheit shot 100 (51-49).
The Bearcats are back in action on Monday, Sept. 24, when they will host the NWC Five-Way #2 at the Illahe Hills Country Club in Salem, Ore. Tee time is set for 1 p.m. (PDT).
