Willamette Finishes in Third Place at George Fox 5-Way Tournament

WOODBURN, ORE. -- Shane Adversalo (So., Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School) finished eighth and Robbie Beard (So., Yankton, SD/Yankton HS) took ninth, leading Willamette University to third place in the team standings at the George Fox University 5-Way Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Oregon Golf Association Course. Linfield College won the team title with a score of 289, while Pacific University was second at 307, followed by Willamette at 324. Lewis & Clark College was fourth at 340 and George Fox placed fifth at 342.

In the medalist race, Tyler Nelson of Linfield shot a 68 (36-32) to win the tournament by three strokes over teammate Andrew Fitch, who placed second for the Wildcats with a 71 (32-39). Third place was earned by Sean Hamer of Pacific, who recorded a score of 74 (38-36).

Four players tied for fourth place at 75. They were Jeff Nigro (36-39) and Kyle Henderson (38-37) from Linfield, Tim Andrew (40-35) of Pacific and Jason Nishikawa (37-38) who competed individually for Pacific.

Adversalo led the Bearcats with a score of 76 (37-39). Beard followed just one stoke behind at 77 (37-40). also contributing to Willamette's team score were Dave Bennett (Sr., Coos Bay, OR/Marshfield HS), who shot an 80 (40-40), and Alex Bennett (So., Sammamish, WA/skyline HS), who carded a 91 (47-44). Taylor Buchheit (Fr., Mt. Angel, OR/Kennedy HS) finished with a 94 (46-48) and Kevin Burfeind (Fr.) completed the course with a 97 (50-47).

The Bearcats will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 21 and Monday, Oct. 22 at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic, set for the Spokane Country Club in Spokane, Wash. Whitworth University will be the tournament host, with tee times scheduled for 11:30 a.m. (PDT) on Sunday and 9 a.m. (PDT) on Monday.
