Williams Scores Twice for Pacific, as Boxers Defeat Bearcats, 3-0
FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Danny Williams scored two goals and Robin Grossman added two assists, as the Pacific University Boxers defeated the visiting Willamette University Bearcats, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference men's soccer game on Friday, Nov. 3 at Lincoln Park Stadium. Pacific scored all three goals in the first half, as the Boxers upped their record to 8-6-2 on the season, 6-5-2 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 2-14-2 overall, 0-12-1 in the NWC.
Williams opened the scoring just 1:30 into the game, on a shot from three yards out that was assisted by Grossman. Kevin Fujimoto provided Pacific with the next goal on a 3-yard shot at 17:15. Grossman set up the play with a corner kick. Williams completed the scoring on a 15-yard shot at 30:22, following a throw in by Neal Avery. The shot deflected off a Willamette defender and into the net.
The Boxers held a 21-4 margin in total shots, including a 13-1 advantage in the first half. Pacific achieved 11 shots on goal, while Willamette had just one shot on goal. The Boxers earned eight corner kicks to the Bearcats' two.
Greg Beasley (Fr., F, Camas, WA/Camas HS) had the only shot on goal for the Bearcats. His shot from the top of the penalty area at 37:40 was saved by Pacific goalkeeper Andrew Stevermer. Willamette goalkeeper Mark Bennett (So., Salt Lake City, UT/West HS) made eight saves while playing the entire game. Stevermer played the first 45 minutes for Pacific, with Chris Caswell taking over in goal for the Boxers in the second half.
Willamette will conclude the season by hosting Pacific Lutheran University at Sparks Field in Salem, Ore., on Saturday, Nov. 3. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 (PDT).
