Adversalo Finishes in Third Place at GFU Invitational #1

MEDFORD, ORE. -- Shane Adversalo (So., Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School) shot a 77 to tie for the low round on the second day of the George Fox Invitational #1 on Monday, Feb. 25 at the Centennial Golf Club. Adversalo finished with a two-round score of 156 to earn third place in the medalist standings. Willamette took second in the team standings with a score of 661. Pacific University shot a team score of 629 to win the title.

Max Bonk from Pacific won medalist honors with a score of 153 (75-58). Taryn Braseth, also from Pacific, concluded the event in second place at 155 (75-80). Adversalo followed just one stroke behind Braseth and three behind Bonk (79-77-156). Pacific's Jason Nishakawa tied adversalo for the low round on Monday with a 77 and was fourth overall at 159 (82-77). Fifth place went to Justin Ahrans from Northwest Christian College with a score of 160 (80-80).

Pacific's first place total of 629 (314-315) gave the Boxers a margin of victory of 32 strokes. Willamette's 661 (330-331) was 56 strokes ahead of George Fox University in third place at 717 (367-350). Northwest Christian did not field a full team.

Adversalo was one of two Bearcats in the top 10. Dave Bennett (Sr., Coos Bay, OR/Marshfield HS) tied for ninth place at 167 after beating his first round score by three strokes on the second day, as he shot 85-82.

Robbie Beard (So., Yankton, SD/Yankton HS) and Alex Bennett (So., Sammamish, WA/Skyline HS), both from Willamette tied for 11th place at 169. Beard carded 85-84, while Bennett recorded 81-88. Kevin Burfeind (Fr., Kalispell, MT/Flathead HS) finished at 180 (92-88) and Ian Osborne (Fr., Carmel, CA/Carmel HS) concluded the tournament at 197 (96-101).

Willamette's next competition is the UPS Invitational, set for March 6-7 at the Fircrest Golf Club in Fircrest, Wash. The Bearcats will take on fellow Northwest Conference opponents from the University of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University and Linfield College. Tee time is set for 12 p.m. (PST) on the first day and for 8 a.m. (PST) on the second day.
