Adversalo Places Sixth and Bryant Ties for Seventh at UPS Invite
TACOMA, WASH. -- Shane Adversalo (So., Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School) took sixth place with a two-round score of 154 and Ben Bryant (Jr., Albany, OR/West Albany HS) tied for seventh with a score of 155, as the Puget Sound Invitational concluded on Friday, March 7. Willamette was fourth in the final team standings.
Chris Packard of Pacific Lutheran University shot a one-over-par 143 (71-72) to win medalist honors. He was followed by Greg Swanson of Puget Sound, who was tied for the lead after the first day and ended the event with a score of 146 (71-75). Tim Bartz of UPS claimed third place after recording the low round of the tournament with a 70 on the second day. His overall score was 151 (81-70).
Jason Casey from PLU placed fourth with a 175 (87-88). Fifth place went to Tyler Nelson of Linfield College, who carded a 153 (76-77). Adversalo shot 77-77--154 for sixth place and Bryant registered 80-75--155 to tie for seventh place. Kyle Henderson (79-76--155) and Joel Rychard (78-77--155), both from Linfield, also tied for seventh.
Other golfers competing for Willamette were Robbie Beard (So., Yankton, SD/Yankton HS), Dave Bennett (Sr., Coos Bay, OR/Marshfield HS), Grant Leslie (So., Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge HS) and Kevin Burfeind (Fr., Kalispell, MT/Flathead HS). Beard shot a 165 (85-80) and Bennett recorded a 166 (84-82). Leslie finished at 174 (84-90), while Burfeind carded a 177 (85-92).
Linfield won the team competition with an overall score of 612 (304-308). Puget Sound, which trailed the Wildcats by six strokes after the first day, finished three strokes off the pace to take second at 615 (310-305). Pacific Lutheran was third with a score of 622 (313-309), with Willamette fourth at 639 (325-314).
The Bearcats are scheduled to host the Willamette Invitational on Monday, March 17 at the Creekside Country Club. The event features two rounds on the same day, with tee time for the first round slate for 9 a.m. (PDT).
