Bearcats are Fourth after First Day of Puget Sound Invitational
TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University men's golf team is in fourth place after the first day of the Puget Sound Invitational on Thursday, March 6 at the Fircrest Country Club. Linfield College held first place with a team score of 304 and was followed by the University of Puget Sound in second at 310. Pacific Lutheran University was third with a score of 313 and Willamette was fourth at 325.
Chris Packard of PLU and Greg Swanson of UPS were tied for first place at the end of the first day. Both golfers shot an even par 71 in the opening round. Jeff Nigro from Linfield followed in third place with a 74. Marc Phillips, competing unattached, was fourth with a 74. Tyler Nelson and Andrew Fitch, both from Linfield, shared fifth place in the standings after shooting 76.
Willamette's individual leader was sophomore Shane Adversalo (Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School). Adversalo was tied for seventh with a first-round score of 77. Ben Bryant (Jr., Albany, OR/West Albany HS) carded an 80 for the Bearcats, while Dave Bennett (Jr., Coos Bay, OR/Marshfield HS) and Grant Leslie (So., Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge HS) each contributed an 84.
The tournament concludes with the second round on Friday, March 7. Tee time is scheduled for 8 a.m. (PST).
