Lackman is Sixth in 110 Hurdles, Piros Takes Sixth in Javelin, at Oregon Preview

EUGENE, ORE. -- Drew Lackman (Jr., Gig Harbor, WA/Gig Harbor HS) finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles and Grant Piros (Jr., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) placed sixth in the javelin to record Willamette University's top results at the Oregon Preview, hosted by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field on Saturday, March 22. The event featured solid talent from all levels of collegiate track and field in the Pacific Northwest.

Willamette didn't add to its list of NCAA provisional qualifiers on Saturday, but the Bearcats did achieve quality times and distances throughout the day.

Lackman was timed at 15.69 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, as he completed the race just 0.35 away from his personal best of 15.34 seconds. He also took ninth in the 400-meter hurdles, as he recorded a time of 56.91 seconds.

Piros, who recorded an NCAA provisional distance of 200'4" in the javelin earlier this season, threw 191'9" at the Oregon Preview. Although he didn't match his personal record, he did surpass the NCAA provisional standard of 188'10" for the second time this spring.

Garrison Coy, 2008 Oregon PreviewLackman was joined in the 110-meter hurdles by Piros and by Garrison Coy (Jr., Gig Harbor, WA/Gig Harbor HS). Coy took eighth place at 15.90 seconds. Piros was 11th at 16.17 seconds. Ashton Eaton from the University of Oregon won the event in 14.71 seconds.

Coy also competed with Lackman in the 400-meter hurdles. Coy's time was 57.27 seconds, as he finished in 11th place. Lloyd Massey of Western Oregon University won the 400 hurdles in 54.47 seconds.

In the shot put, Josh Clothier (Fr., Walla Walla, WA/Walla Walla HS) claimed seventh place with a toss of 44'8". He was just a quarter-inch away from sixth place. Steve Collins (Fr., Zillah, WA/Zillah HS) finished ninth in the shot put at 43'4.25".

Jonathan Woodland (Jr., Creswell, OR/Creswell HS) of Willamette was ninth in the triple jump. His top effort covered 43'1.75". The triple jump was won by Stephen Marshall of Concordia University (Ore.) at 45'5.75".

In the "B" Section of the men's 800-meter run, freshman Jonathan Lanning (Springfield, OR/Thurston HS) took fifth for Willamette at 1:59.86. His time was just under his high school personal best of 1:59.9.

For the Willamette women's team, Melinda Fahey (Sr., Salem, OR/McKay HS) achieved seventh place in the hammer throw and took eighth place in the discus. She registered a throw of 148'5" in the hammer and toss the discus 126'10".

Carly Killam, 2008 Oregon PreviewCarly Killam (Sr., Kailua, HI/Punahou School) was eighth in the women's 1,500-meter run. She was time at 4:41.53. The event was won by Lauren Fleshman of Nike at 4:14.74. Jordyn Smith (Sr., Henderson, NV/Green Valley HS) was 10th in the 800-meter run. She completed the race in 2:16.29. Zoe Buckman from the University of Oregon led the field in 2:09.67.

Jena Winger (Jr., Bonney Lake, WA/Sumner HS) won the "B" Section of the women's 1,500-meter run. She reached the finish line in 4:47.64.

Willamette's next track and field competition is scheduled for Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5, when the Bearcats will host the Willamette Invitational. Action is set to begin at 4 p.m. (PDT) on Friday and at 10:30 a.m. (PDT) on Saturday.
