SALEM, ORE. -- Whitney Ueno (Jr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) of Willamette University has been chosen Co-NWC Women's Golf Player of the Week for her efforts at the Puget Sound Invitational in Tacoma, Wash., on March 6-7. Ueno and Maresa Jenson from the University of Puget Sound tied for the award after tying for medalist honors during the tournament.

Ueno and Jenson each shot a 174 during the two-day event, which was held at the Fircrest Country Club. Jenson held a two-stroke lead, 84 to 86, after the first day, but Ueno made up the difference in the second round, shooting an 88 while Jenson carded a 90. Both golfers finished with a three-stroke lead over Brynn Hurdus of Linfield College (91-86--177) in third place.

The UPS Invitational was Ueno's first competition of the 2007-08 athletic year. She missed the fall season while studying abroad. Ueno competed at the NCAA Division III National Championships and took 10th place as a freshman in 2005-06.
