Anderson Receives NWC Player of the Week Honors
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University center fielder Sean Anderson (Sr., Klamath Falls, OR/Klamath Union HS) has been selected as the NWC Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 13, 2008. Anderson batted .550 (11 for 20) as the Bearcats won three out of four games during their Northwest Conference series at the University of Puget Sound.
Anderson registered at least two hits in all four games. He hit two doubles in the first game of the series on Saturday, April 12, leading WU to a 10-0 victory. He blasted two home runs and added a single in the final game on Sunday, helping the Bearcats achieve a 17-4 triumph.
He was 4 for 4 in the third game of the series, which Willamette won, 8-5. He went 2 for 6 at the plate in the Bearcats' only loss, a 14-13 setback in the second game on Friday.
During the week, Anderson scored eight runs and contributed 10 RBIs. On defense, he recorded at least two putouts per game and finished the four-game series with 10 putouts and no errors.
Anderson has achieved a .379 batting average this season, with nine doubles, five triples and seven home runs. His .702 slugging percentage ranks second on the team and he is 13 of 16 on stolen bases. He owns a .319 career batting average.
Willamette, 18-15 overall and 14-10 in the Northwest Conference, will host NWC leader Linfield College (25-7, 20-4) on Saturday, April 19 and Sunday, April 20. The Bearcats and the Wildcats are set to play a doubleheader each day, with the action starting at 12 p.m. (PDT).
