Four Bearcat Teams Report for Start of Fall Season

SALEM, ORE. -- Four of Willamette's fall sports teams reported to the campus on Saturday, Aug. 16 in preparation for the 2008 season. The WU football, men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball teams arrived in Salem for meetings, physicals and other off-the-field activities in advance of practices, which will start on Monday, Aug. 18.

The regular season is three weeks away for the football team and only two weeks away for the soccer and volleyball teams.

WU's first regular season event of the year will be played by the volleyball team in the opening round of the George Fox University Tournament on Friday, Aug. 29, when the Bearcats take on Mills College at 12 p.m. (PDT). Willamette will conclude the tournament with matches against George Fox on Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. and against Menlo on Aug. 30 at 9 a.m.

Both soccer teams will start the season on Friday, Aug. 29. The women's soccer squad will host the Oregon Institute of Technology at Sparks Field at 7 p.m. (PDT). The men's soccer team will play Warner Pacific College at 3 p.m. on the Corban College field in Salem. WU and Corban are co-hosting the Capital Classic. Willamette will take on Corban to complete the tournament at Sparks Field on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.

The Willamette football team will begin its schedule on Saturday, Sept. 6, when the Bearcats host Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) at McCulloch Stadium at 1:30 p.m. (PDT). WU will play 10 games during the regular season, with every game set to be webcast on the Bearcat Sports Network. Webcast announcers will be Mike Allegre and Craig Spivey, with streaming provided by Full Access Sports.

WU's men's and women's cross country teams will report later this month. The first cross country competition for the Bearcats will be the Willamette Grass Course Meet on Saturday, Sept. 20. Races are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. (PDT) at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem.
