Adversalo Cards a 73, Ties for First at NWC Five-Way
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University junior Shane Adversalo (Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School) shot 73 to tie for first place at the Northwest Conference Five-Way hosted by WU at the Illahe Hills Country Club on Monday, Sept. 15. Adversalo (38-35) and Andrew Fitch (39-34) of Linfield tied for the lead and finished two strokes in front of three golfers in third place at 75.
The tie for third was held by Ben Bryant (Sr., Albany, OR/West Albany HS) of Willamette, who shot 36-39, and by Tony Kordosky (36-39) and Yutaro Sakamoto (37-38) of Linfield. Three more golfers tied for sixth place at 76.
Linfield won the team title with a score of 299. Willamette took second at 309, with Pacific University in third place at 313 and George Fox University in fourth place at 344. Lewis & Clark College did not field a complete team.
Adversalo and Beard helped WU outlast Pacific University in the race for second place. The Bearcats finished four strokes in front of the Boxers. Willamette's team score also included a 79 (41-38) from Taylor McKensie (Fr., Hermiston, OR/Hermiston HS) and an 82 (42-40) from Robbie Beard (Jr., Yankton, SD/Yankton HS).
Also competing on Willamette's official six-man roster were Tyler Robinson (Sr., Salem, OR/Umpqua Valley Christian) and Kevin Burfeind (So., Kalispell, MT/Flathead HS). Robinson carded an 86 and Burfeind achieved a 93.
The Five-Way tournament matched up the five NWC teams located in Oregon. It was the first competition of Willamette's fall season. The upcoming events on WU's schedule will be dual matches spread over the next month against the other Oregon members of the NWC. Willamette also will compete at the NWC Fall Classic, set for Oct. 18-19 at the Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick, Wash.
