Redlands Downs Willamette, 3-0, at CLU Tournament
THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF. -- The University of Redlands swept the Willamette University Bearcats, 25-20, 25-17, 25-14, at the California Lutheran University Tournament on Friday, Sept. 12. The loss dropped Willamette to 2-6 on the season, 0-2 in the tournament. Redlands, whose previous five matches were against Top 25 teams, improved to 1-5 on the season and 1-1 in the tournament.
Jaela Dinsmore (Fr., DS, Hines, OR/Burns HS) achieved eight kills and 10 digs for the Bearcats. She hit .208 with just three attacking errors. Carli Sash (Fr., OH, Jacksonville, OR/South Medford HS) added six kills.
Clare Chedester (Sr., LIB, Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) and Christine Dion (Sr., S, San Jose, CA/University of Portland) shared the setting duties for Willamette. Chedester earned 14 assists and Dion finished with 11 assists. Sash, Kelley Lindstrom (Sr., OH, Banks, OR/Banks HS) and Kellie Menghini (Fr., DS, Anchorage, AK/South Anchorage HS) each supplied one service ace.
On Saturday (Sept. 13), WU will play Pomona-Pitzer at 9 a.m. (PDT). The Bearcats will take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 2 p.m. to conclude tournament play.
