Rowan Chosen NWC Special Teams Player of the Week
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University place-kicker and punter Mitchell Rowan (Fr., Cotati, CA/Rancho Cotate HS) has been named Northwest Conference Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts on Saturday, Sept. 27. Rowan helped the Bearcats improve to 4-0 on the season with a 44-0 road victory over the University of La Verne.
Rowan connected on 6 of 6 extra points and averaged 44.6 yards on five punts. He placed four of the punts inside La Verne's 20-yard line.
For the season, Rowan is averaging 41.7 yards on 19 punts. Nine of his punts have been inside the 20.
Willamette is off to its best start since the 1997 season, when the 'Cats went 13-1 and reached the NAIA National Championship game. The Bearcats, who now compete in NCAA Division III, are ranked #23 in the D3Football.com Top 25. Willamette will play at defending NWC champion Whitworth University on Saturday, Oct. 4. Game time in Spokane, Wash., is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PDT).
