Ueno Wins Championship at Pacific Invitational

BANKS, ORE. -- Whitney Ueno (Sr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) of Willamette University recorded her second consecutive 77 at the Quail Valley Golf Course on Sunday, Sept. 21 to win the individual title at the Pacific Invitational with a two-day score of 154. Ueno won the tournament by eight strokes, while Valerie Kitamori of Pacific University took second place with a score of 162 (86-76).

In the team competition, George Fox University claimed first place by 19 strokes, as the Bruins finished with a score of 688 (347-341). GFU's score of 341 on Sunday was the lowest team round of the tournament. Pacific took second place at 707 (360-347), while Linfield College placed third at 755 (380-375) and Willamette was fourth at 824 (418-406). Lewis & Clark did not field a complete team.

Ueno carded a 39 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine during Sunday's round. Kitamori, who began the day in a tie for third place nine strokes behind Ueno, shot a 76 (37-39) for the tournament's best individual round.

Jasmine Ching from Pacific achieved third place with an overall score of 168 (87-81). Brianna Nap of George Fox was fourth at 169 (84-85), and Sarah McCown from GFU was fifth at 171 (86-85).

Alex Johnson (Fr., Salem, OR/Blanchet Catholic School) of Willamette placed eighth overall. She shot an 86 on Sunday to finish at 178. Also for Willamette, Andrea Hand (Sr., Hillsboro, OR/Hillsboro HS) tied for 20th with an overall score of 209.

The Bearcats are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28 at the Linfield Invitational. Both rounds of the tournament will be held at the Michelbook Country Club.
