Coffman Earns NWC Student-Athlete of the Week Award

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior cross country runner Maddie Coffman (Boise, ID/Boise HS) has been chosen Northwest Conference Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts at the Charles Bowles Invitational, hosted by Willamette on Saturday, Oct. 4. Coffman won the women's Cardinal 5K Race that featured a total of 288 entries.

Coffman's winning time was a personal-best 17:37.53, as she finished about four seconds in front of Mikayla Murphy from the University of California-Santa Cruz, who took second in 17:41.46. Coffman cut 12.72 seconds from her previous top 5K run.

Willamette took fifth place in the overall women's Cardinal standings. The Bearcats placed third among NCAA Division III teams.

The WU women's team entered the meet ranked 26th in the USTFCCCA Coaches Poll. Willamette's next competition will be at the Mike Hodges Invitational, hosted by Clackamas Communiity College on Oct. 18 in Oregon City, Ore.
