Ueno Ties for First Place at George Fox Invitational
NEWBERG, ORE. -- Whitney Ueno (Sr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) of Willamette University rallied from a two-stroke deficit with two holes remaining to tie Brianna Nap of George Fox University with a 77 at the George Fox Invitational at the Chehalem Glenn Golf Club on Sunday, Oct. 5. GFU won the team title with a score of 340.
Ueno began the back nine trailing by one stroke after shooting a 39 over the first nine holes, while Nap carded a 38. Ueno pulled even with Nap on the 13th hole, but fell behind by one stroke on the 15th hole and another on the 16th. She then carded consecutive 4's, while Nap shot 5's on the 17th and 18th holes.
Ueno and Nap led the field by six strokes. Mandy Cameron of George Fox and Brynn Hurdus of Linfield College each shot an 83 to tie for third place. Fifth place was earned by Sophie Corr of Linfield with an 85.
GFU won the team championship by 14 strokes. Linfield finished second at 354 and Willamette was third at 400. Corban College and Lewis & Clark College did not field complete teams.
Ueno was followed on WU's scoring chart by Alex Johnson (Fr., Salem, OR/Blanchet Catholic School). Johnson shot a 94, with a 48 on the front nine and a 46 on the back nine. Andrea Hand (Sr., Hillsboro, OR/Hillsboro HS) finished at 110 (54-56).
Willamette does not play again until the Northwest Conference Fall Classic on Oct. 18-19 in Redmond, Ore. The tournament will be held at the Juniper Golf Club.
