Willamette Women's Cross Country Team is Ranked #20; Men's Team is #33

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's cross country teams is ranked #20 this week in the NCAA Division III National Poll released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Willamette's men are ranked #33 in this week's National Poll.

Willamette's women were not ranked a week ago, but moved back into the poll after winning their seventh consecutive Northwest Conference championship in Walla Walla, Wash., on Nov. 1. Maddie Coffman (Sr., Boise, ID/Boise HS) won the NWC women's individual title, while Jena Winger (Sr., Bonney Lake, WA/Sumner HS) took second place.

The top team in the women's poll remained Calvin College (Mich.), which received 6 of 8 first place votes and 277 points. Williams College (Mass.) moved up one spot to #2 in the poll with two first place votes and 268 points. Wartburg College (Iowas) fell from #2 to #3 with 265 points.

Willamette's men finished second at the NWC Championships, but fell from #23 to #33 in this week's poll. Josh Clough (Sr., Auburn, WA/Auburn Riverside HS) placed fifth at the NWC Meet, while Kyle Kotaich (Jr., Florence, OR/Siuslaw HS) took eighth place.

The #1 team this week in the men's poll is Cortland State (N.Y.), which claimed all eight first place votes and 280 points in the rankings. North Central College (Ill.) was #2 with 272 points and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point was #3 with 264 points.

Willamette will host the NCAA Division III West Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Ore. The Willamette men have won six consecutive West Region titles and the WU women have claimed five straight West Region championships. Action get underway at 10 a.m. (PST) with the men's 8-kilometer race. The women's race, covering 6 kilometers, will start at 11 a.m.

Jena Winger gave Willamette a 1-2 finish at the NWC Meet when she finished second behind teammate Maddie Coffman.
