FEDERAL WAY, WASH. -- The Willamette University men's and women's swimming teams are at the King County Aquatic Center this weekend (Feb. 13-15) for the 2009 Northwest Conference Championships. The event includes preliminaries at 10 a.m. (PST) each day, with finals beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Linfield College is serving as the host of the eight-team competition. All-session passes are $20 for adults and $15 for youth and can be purchased at the door.

Gwen Schulze (Jr., Silverdale, WA/Central Kitsap HS) of Willamette will attempt to break the school record in the 100-yard butterfly, while working to earn a possible "B" qualifying time for the NCAA Championships. Hanna Connett (So., Pullman, WA/Pullman HS) and Jenna Larrow (Jr., Capt., Boise, ID/Timberline HS), also swimming for the Bearcats, will try to improve on last year's top 8 finishes as they seek to move into the top 3-5.

For the WU men's team, James Huang (Sr., Capt., Portland, OR/Sunset HS) has consistently improved his best times throughout the season. He hopes to make top 16 finishes in one or more of his events for the first time in his career. John Schmidtbauer (So., Whittier, CA/Whittier HS) will be out to improve on his three finishes in the consolation finals at last year's NWC Championships.

Gwen Schulze hopes to set the Willamette record in the 100-yard butterfly at the NWC Championships.
