Willamette Men's Golf Team is Third at CMS Invitational
CLAREMONT, CALIF. -- The Willamette University men's golf team took third place at the CMS Invitational, held at the Los Serranos Country Club on Feb. 2-3. The tournament was hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, which took advantage of its familiarity with the course to claim the team title and the top three individual finishes.
CMS shot a 36-hole score of 580 (289-291). The University of Puget Sound took second with a score of 631 (320-311). Willamette followed with a score of 667 (337-330).
The individual champion was John Morris of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with a 141. He was followed by teammate Michael Liu with a 144. Third place went to Tain Lee, also from CMS, with a score of 145.
Willamette's low score was recorded by Ben Bryant (Sr., Albany, OR/West Albany HS), who shot 80-83--163. Shane Adversalo (So., Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School) carded 86-81--167 and was tied by Robbie Beard (Jr., Yankton, SD/Yankton HS), who shot 86-82--167.
Taylor McKenzie (Fr., Hermiston, OR/Hermiston HS) registered an 86-84--170 for the Bearcats. Tyler Robinson (Sr., Salem, OR/Umpqua Valley Christian School) completed WU's lineup at 91-88--179.
The two-day event gave Northwest Conference golfers from Willamette and Puget Sound a chance to get in a pair of competitive rounds against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponents early in the season. WU's next competition is set for March 5-6 at the Logger Invitational, which will be hosted by Puget Sound at the Fircrest Golf Club in Tacoma, Wash.
