Bearcats and Bruins are Tied 3-3 when Game is Suspended
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University and George Fox University were able to start their baseball doubleheader on Saturday, March 14 despite a wet weather forecast. Even so, rain got in the way and forced the teams to stop playing after three innings in the first game. The Bearcats and the Bruins were tied at 3-3 when play was suspended.
The teams will attempt to finish the 9-inning game on Sunday, March 15, starting at 12 p.m. (PDT). If possible, the teams will follow with one 7-inning game on Sunday. A date and time for the fourth game of the series has not been selected. George Fox won the first game, 14-10, on Friday.
Rain prevented Saturday's game from starting until 1:15 p.m. Neither team scored in the first inning, but George Fox plated two runs in the top of the second. Seth Anderson walked to start the inning. One out later, Eric Gantenbein blasted a two-run homer to left field.
The Bruins added a run in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead. Cody Curtin reached first base on an error and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Anderson.
WU scored three times in the bottom of the stanza. David Tufo (Sr., 3B, San Bruno, CA/Burlingame HS) and Dan Maslanik (Sr., C, Boulder, CO/Fairview HS) walked to start the inning. Doug Bloom (So., SS, Salem, OR/South Salem HS) followed with a double to score Tufo. Ellis Webster (Sr., 2B, Carlsbad, CA/San Dieguito Academy) singled down the right field line to bring home Maslanik and move Bloom to third.
Kyle Stalker (Sr., 1B, Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) singled up the middle. Bloom scored on the play to tie the game.
Shane Dalgleish of GFU threw all three innings for the Bruins. Kelsey Nakata (Sr., RHP, Mililani, HI/Mililani HS), in his first appearance since returning from an injury, tossed the first two innings for WU. Chris Torgerson (So., RHP, Sacramento, CA/Jesuit HS) pitched the third inning for the Bearcats.
