Bryant is Tied for Sixth with a 78 on Day 1 of Logger Invitational
TACOMA, WASH. -- Willamette University golfer Ben Bryant (Sr., Albany, OR/West Albany HS) was tied for sixth with a 78 following the first day of the Logger Invitational on Thursday, March 5 at the Fircrest Golf Club. Tyler Nelson of Linfield College led the field with a 69. The tournament will conclude on Friday March 5 with the final 18 holes.
Linfield topped the team standings on Thursday with a score of 295. The University of Puget Sound, which is hosting the event, shot 312. The Loggers held second place by a single stroke over Pacific Lutheran University, with the Lutes carding a 313 team score. Willamette was fourth with a score of 324.
Nelson's score of 69 included a 35 on the front nine and a 34 on the back nine. He was one of four Linfield golfers who shot under 80, Andrew Fitch was second with a 73 (40-33), while Yutaro Sakamoto ranked fourth at 75 (40-35). Fitch shot 78 (40-33) joined WU's Bryant as one of four competitors tied for sixth.
Third place was held by Jason Casey from PLU. He shot 74 on the day (38-36). Mike Pannier of UPS was in fifth place with a 77 (39-38).
Bryant carded a 41 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine. Teammate Shane Adversalo (Jr., Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School) tied for 10th in the first round with a 79 (43-36). Other Willamette golfers who contributed to the team score were Robbie Beard (Jr., Yankton, SD/Yankton HS) with an 83 (45-38) and Taylor McKenzie (Fr., Hermiston, OR/Hermiston HS) with an 84 (44-40).
