Monroe Named NWC Student-Athlete of the Week
SALEM, ORE. -- Jacob Monroe (Sr., Keizer, OR/McNary HS) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Men's Field Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Charles Bowles Spring Break Classic, hosted by the Bearcats on Friday, March 20. Monroe won three field events and recorded an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark in the hammer throw.
Monroe won the hammer with a personal record toss of 174'2". He surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 170'7.25" and moved into third place on Willamette's top 10 list in the event. The throw ranks second so far this season in Division III.
He also won the discus throw and the shot put. In the discus, he registered a throw of 150'4", as he took over eighth place on WU's all-time list. He ranks second on this year's list of top marks by NWC athletes in the discus. Monroe achieved a distance of 45'9" to earn his victory in the shot put.
Willamette's next competition in track and field will be the Willamette Invitational on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4 at the Charles Bowles Track. The event is one of the largest collegiate meets on the West Coast each season. Action is set to get underway at 3 p.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
