Piros Chosen NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Grant Piros (Sr., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) from Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Men's Field Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in the Bearcats' dual meet with Western Oregon University on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14. Piros won the decathlon and recorded a provisional qualifying distance in the javelin in the process.

Piros threw the javelin 194'9" to surpass the provisional qualifying standard of 188'7.75". He won the decathlon with a personal record of 6,048 points and missed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the decathlon by two points.

Last spring, Piros earned All-America status by placing seventh at the NCAA Division III Championships with a toss of 193'10". His career best in the javelin is 200'4".

Willamette's next track competition is set for Friday, March 20 at the Charles Bowles Spring Break Classic. The Bearcats will host the meet at the Charles Bowles Track at McCulloch Stadium in Bush's Pasture Park. The action is set to get underway at 10 a.m. (PDT).
