Ueno Shoots 79 to Win Lewis & Clark Invitational
OREGON CITY, ORE. -- Willamette University senior golfer Whitney Ueno (Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) shot a 79 to win the Lewis & Clark Invitational at the Stone Creek Golf Club on Sunday, March 1. Ueno won the individual title by five strokes over Sophie Corr from Linfield College, who took second with an 84.
Pacific University won the team championship with a score of 363. Linfield finished one stroke out of first place at 364. Willamette was third with a score of 429. Lewis & Clark and Corban College did not field complete teams.
Ueno had a solid round despite battling the rain and light winds. She shot a 39 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine. Corr's second-place total included a 44 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine, as she matched Ueno over the final half of the course.
Valerie Kitamori of Pacific finished third with a score of 85 (41-44). Fourth place went to Lindsey Huston of Pacific with an 89 (45-44). LeAnna Nash from Pacific was fifth with a score of 93 (51-42).
Following Ueno on Willamette's overall scorecard was Alex Johnson (Fr., Salem, OR/Blanchet Catholic School). She ended the tournament in a three-way tie for eighth place at 98. She carded a 52 on the front nine, but recovered over the back nine with a score of 46. Andrea Hand (Sr., Hillsboro, OR/Hillsboro HS) shot 102 (48-54) for the Bearcats.
The next tournament on the schedule for Willamette is the Pacific Invitational on March 14-15 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Forest Grove, Ore. Tee time is set for 10 a.m. (PDT) on the first day and for 8 a.m. on the second day.
