Willamette Track & Field Teams Compete against Western Oregon
MONMOUTH, ORE. -- Willamette University and Western Oregon University competed in a track and field dual meet on Saturday, March 7 on the WOU campus. The Bearcats won a total of 11 events and Western Oregon placed first in 12 events. No team scores were recorded.
Some of the top performances for Willamette were provided by Jena Winger (Sr., Bonney Lake, WA/Sumner HS), Leo Castillo (Fr., Parkdale, OR/Hood River Valley HS), Jacob Monroe (Sr., Keizer, OR/McNary HS) and Andrea Richardson (Fr., Beaverton, OR/Aloha HS). In addition, Christina Edholm (Jr., Pleasanton, CA/Foothill HS) achieved first place in two events -- the shot put and the hammer throw.
Winger won the women's 1,500-meter run with the top time so far this season by a Northwest Conference athlete, as she finished the race in 4:46.06. Castillo also registered a leading time in the NWC, as he won the men's 1,500-meter race in 3:59.37. Winger led a 1-2-4 finish for the Bearcats, while Castillo helped Willamette claim the top four places and six of the top seven for the men.
Monroe earned first place in the men's discus with a toss of 143'6". He also took second place in the hammer throw, with a distance of 159'8".
Richardson became the NWC leader in the women's high jump by clearing 5'1.75". She was one of two jumpers to clear 5'1.75", but Kelsey Neilson of Western Oregon took first place on fewer jumps.

Willamette and Western Oregon will meet again on Saturday, March 14. The Bearcats will host the dual meet, with action getting underway at 10 a.m. (PDT) at the Charles Bowles Track .
