Willamette Jumps to #8 in NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll

SALEM, ORE. -- Inclement weather prevented Willamette University from playing softball last week, but it didn't prevent the Bearcats from advancing two spots to #8 in this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Top 25 Poll released on Wednesday, March 18. The Bearcats remained 5-1 in regular season games in addition to two exhibition wins. Willamette was ranked #10 in the NFCA Division III Poll last week.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater remained #1. UWW, which has yet to play a game, received seven of eight first place votes and 197 points in the poll. Louisiana College, 12-1, moved up one position to #2 in the poll with 189 points. The University of Texas-Tyler, 11-1, also went up one spot to #3 with 179 points and the final first place vote. The University of St. Thomas (Minn.), 6-0, went from #5 to #4 in the poll after receiving 175 points. Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 3-1, fell from #2 to #5 with 168 points.

Willamette was scheduled to play Lewis & Clark College and George Fox University in doubleheaders this past weekend (March 14-15). The Bearcats are making up the George Fox games today (March 19) in Newberg, Ore. Willamette will host L&C at the WU Softball Field on April 1, at 2 p.m. (PDT), to make up the other doubleheader.
