Willamette's WV8+ Retains Hold on #8 in NCAA Division III Poll
SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's varsity eight+ continues to hold the #8 ranking in this week's NCAA Division III Poll, released on April 29 by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). It is the third consecutive week that Willamette has held or been tied for the #8 ranking.
The Bearcats will be competing at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships at Lake Natoma near Sacramento, Calif., on May 2-3. Willamette is are under consideration for the NCAA Championships, set for May 29-31 at Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
Williams College (Mass.) is ranked #1 with all 10 first place votes and 200 points in the poll. Bates College (Maine) is #2 with 188 points and Trinity College (Conn). is ranked #3 with 178. Ithaca College (N.Y). follows at #4 with 169, while the University of Puget Sound is #5 with 161. Willamette and Puget Sound compete in the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference (NCRC).
The #6-ranked team this week is Smith College (Mass.) with 140 points. St. Lawrence University (N.Y.) is #7 with 136 and Willamette is #8 with 129. Rounding out the Top 10 are Wesleyan University (Mass.) at #9 with 124 points and Wellesley College (Mass.) at #10 with 108.
