Willamette Football Highlighted by KPTV Channel 12 in Portland

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University football team, ranked #7 in the D3Football.com Preseason Top 25, continues to practice as the Bearcats get ready for their season opener on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. (PDT).

Last week, sports reporter Mark Ross from KPTV Channel 12 in Portland, Ore., stopped by practice to interview Coach Speckman and several players. The report by Ross was included on KPTV's Oregon Sports Final program late in the evening on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Willamette will play its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 12 at McCulloch Stadium against California Lutheran University. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. (PDT).

The Bearcats went 11-1 last year, including a 10-0 regular season record. WU won the Northwest Conference Championship with a 6-0 mark. The 'Cats defeated Occidental College, 48-33, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs before falling to eventual national runner-up Wisconsin-Whitewater, 30-27, in the second round.
