Willamette Rowing Will Unveil New Boathouse
SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University rowing program will unveil their new boathouse on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. (PDT). A special christening of the boathouse is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. A complete schedule of events for the open house and directions to the event can be found at the end of this story.
WU rowing enters this year after its most successful season in school history last year. The women's varsity eight+ took fifth place in the Division III Petite Final at the NCAA Championship Regatta. As a result, the Bearcats finished 11th overall in their first appearance at the NCAA Championships.
For the third season in a row, Willamette rowing has received an invitation to race at the Head of the Charles Regatta. The Head of the Charles, which is held in Boston, Mass., is the world’s largest two-day rowing event. More than 7,500 athletes from around the world compete in 55 different races.
Willamette will race in the women’s collegiate 4+ on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 12:54 p.m. (PDT). The women’s collegiate 8+ will race on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 10:13 a.m. (PDT). Competing in The Head of the Charles Regatta presents WU with an opportunity to race against the top ranked DII, DIII and club programs in the nation.
The Bearcats open the season on Oct. 17 at the Head of the Silcox hosted by the University of Puget Sound. The event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. (PDT) and will take place on American Lake in Tacoma, Wash.
