Willamette Steps Up one Spot to #17 in D3Football.com Poll

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University, 4-1 on the season, has moved up one spot to #17 in the D3Football.com Top 25 released on Sunday, Oct. 4. The Bearcats advanced in the poll following a 42-13 win over Whitworth University on Saturday. Every team in last week's Top 25 was victorious over the weekend.

Mount Union College (Ohio), 4-0, the defending national champion, continues to hold the #1 ranking with 22 of 25 first place votes and 622 points. The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 4-0, which lost to Mount Union in the NCAA Division III Championship game in 2008, is ranked #2 with three first place votes and 602 points.

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas), 4-0, remained at #3 with 576 points. Wheaton College (Illinois), 4-0, also held its ground at #4 with 523 points. Wesley College (Mass) kept the #5 ranking at 5-0 and 512 points.

Willamette rival Linfield College moved up one position to #7 in this week's poll. The Wildcats defeated Menlo College, 31-7, on Saturday.

The Bearcats moved to #17 by jumping over Ohio Northern University, 2-2, which fell from #16 to #18. Ohio Northern barely defeated Muskingum College, 37-34. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, 4-0, ranked #17 last week, joined WU in advancing one spot in this week's poll.

Other West Coast teams in the D3Football.com Top 25 were the University of Redlands, 3-0, and Occidental College, 2-1. Redlands fell one spot to #22, while Occidental remained at #24.

The Bearcats will play at Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Oct. 10 in a Northwest Conference game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PDT).
