Bearcats are Ranked #14 in West Region in Men's Tennis

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's tennis team is ranked #14 in the West Region in the fall team rankings for NCAA Division III released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The #1 team in the West Region is UC-Santa Cruz.

A total of five Northwest Conference teams are in the fall team rankings. Whitman College is ranked #6, while Pacific Lutheran University is #9 and Linfield College is #12. Following Willamette at #14 is Whitworth University at #15.

This fall, the Bearcats were successful at the Wilson/ITA Small College Northwest Regional, hosted by Whitman in late September. Three Willamette players reached the Round of 16 in singles.

Matt Houser (Jr., Vancouver, WA/Evergreen HS) and Josh Wong (Fr., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) each advanced to the quarterfinals. Houser and Michael Baumgartner (Fr., Albany, OR/West Albany HS) also competed in the quarterfinals in doubles.

Willamette will return to action on Jan. 29 against Portland State University at the Irvington Club in Portland, Ore. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m. (PST).
