Mitchell Selected NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Senior post Cameron Mitchell (Portland, OR/Grant HS/Univ. of Redlands) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. Mitchell received the award for his efforts in Willamette's only game during the week, a 78-74 victory over crosstown rival Corban College on Friday, Dec. 11.

In the win, Mitchell achieved his sixth double-double in eight games. He led all scorers with 24 points, while connecting on 12 of 19 field goals (63.2%). He grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and blocked two shots.

His layup with 1:10 left gave Willamette a 72-69 lead and the Bearcats held off the Warriors for the win. Mitchell scored 12 of his 24 points in the second half.

For the season, Mitchell leads the Bearcats with 19.8 points, 12.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots per game. He is shooting 61.0% (64 of 105).

Willamette is 3-5 overall and has won two games in a row. The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 29, when they will play on the road against NCAA Division I opponent Portland State University. Game time in Portland is set for 5:05 p.m. (PST).
