Mattox is Chosen NWC Track Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Kimber Mattox (So., Bend, OR/Bend HS/Cornell Univ.) of Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Women's Track Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts on Saturday, March 6 at the Willamette Opener. Mattox recorded a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Mattox won the steeplechase on Saturday with a time of 11:04.42. She finished the race well under the provisional standard of 11:13.0

It is the second consecutive season that Mattox has attained an NCAA qualifying mark in the steeplechase. Last year, she earned an automatic qualifying time while setting a Willamette record of 10:38.05 and went on to earn All-America honors by placing sixth at the NCAA Championships.

Mattox was one of four members of the WU women's track and field team to win an event at the Willamette Opener. Five members of the men's team also won events during the meet, which opened the Bearcats' season.

Willamette will return to action on Saturday, March 13 with a dual meet at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore. Meet time is set for 1 p.m. (PST).
