Romero Recognized as NWC Student-Athlete of the Week
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University's Mica Romero (So., SS, Woodland, CA/Woodland Christian HS) was named Northwest Conference Offensive/Field Softball Student-Athlete of the Week for her contributions during the Bearcats' four-game series at the University of Puget Sound on March 6-7. Romero batted .714 during her four starts at shortstop and accumulated 10 hits during Willamette's weekend sweep of UPS.
Romero finished the weekend with five runs, six RBIs, four extra-base hits and a 1.071 slugging percentage. Defensively, she earned 11 assists and four putouts without making an error at shortstop.
For the season, Romero has recorded at least one hit in seven of the Bearcats' eight games. She is hitting .654 with 11 RBIs, seven runs and five doubles. Her season slugging percentage is .923.
Romero has been solid on defense as well. She has 12 putouts and 17 assists while not making an error.
WU softball will travel to Panama City, Fla., to participate in the NCAA Division III Leadoff Classic from Friday, March 12 through Sunday, March 14.
The Bearcats will return to NWC play against Pacific University on March 20 in Forest Grove, Ore. Willamette's current record is 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the NWC.
