Three Willamette Track and Field Athletes are Chosen as NWC Student-Athletes of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Three members of the Willamette University track and field teams have been selected as Northwest Conference Student-Athletes of the Week for their efforts at the Southern Oregon Dual Meet on Saturday, March 13 in Ashland, Ore. Bearcats receiving NWC honors this week were Kimber Mattox (So., Bend, OR/Bend HS/Cornell University), Christina Edholm (Sr., Pleasanton, CA/Foothill HS) and Josh Clothier (Jr., Walla Walla, WA/Walla Walla HS).

Mattox was named NWC Women's Track Student-Athlete of the Week and Edholm was chosen NWC Women's Field Student-Athlete of the Week. Clothier earned recognition as the NWC Men's Field Student-Athlete of the Week.

Willamette won eight women's events and five men's events during the dual meet with SOU. Four of the wins were provided by the three competitors honored as Student-Athletes of the Week. Mattox won the women's 800-meter run and the 1,500-meter run. Edholm was victorious in the women's shot put and Clothier took first place in the men's shot put.

Kimber Mattox

Mattox took first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.96 in a field of 13 runners. She finished nearly two seconds in front of Seena Frantz of SOU, who placed second. In the 1,500-meter run, Mattox registered a winning time of 4:50.59, a she won by 0.41 seconds over Frantz.

Christina Edholm

Edholm claimed first place in the shot put with a toss of 40'2.75", as she achieved a career-best distance. Her throw was 2'1.25" short of the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard. Edholm also placed second in the discus throw at 108'11" and was second in the hammer throw at 125'7".

Josh Clothier

Clothier won the shot put with a throw of 50'6.25", as he finished just two inches short of the NCAA provisional standard. It was his career-best throw in the event. He also competed in the hammer throw and the discus throw, as he earned third place in the hammer at 155'6" and fourth place in the discus at 127'11".

Kimber Mattox won the 800 and the 1,500 during Willamette's dual meet at Southern Oregon.
