Willamette is Tied for #8 in CRCA National Preseason Poll
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University is tied for #8 in the nation in NCAA Division III women's rowing in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/USRowing Preseason Poll. Defending national champion Williams College (Mass.) is ranked #1 in the poll.
Williams received all seven first place votes and had 140 points in the poll. Bates College (Maine) was listed at #2 with 124 points. Ithaca College (N.Y.) held the #3 spot in the poll with 123 points. Trinity College (Conn.) followed at #4 with 112 points, while the University of Puget Sound was #5 with 108 points.
Smith College (Mass.) and S.t Lawrence University (N.Y.) were tied at #6, each with 99 points. Willamette and Williams shared #8 with 86 points apiece. Mount Holyoke College (Mass.) rounded out the top 10 with 61 points.
Last year, Willamette sent its women's varsity 8+ to the NCAA Division III Championship Regatta as an at-large entry. The Bearcats took fifth place in the Petite Final after placing third in the Petite Qualifier. Willamette finished 11th out of the 16 competing shells at the championships and ended the season ranked #9 in the CRCA National Poll.
The Bearcat men's and women's rowing teams will compete at the Daffodil Cup at American Lake near Tacoma, Wash., on Saturday, March 27. The races are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. (PDT).
