Wong Loses to #5 Seed in Round of 16 at Ojai Tournament
OJAI, CALIF. -- Willamette University freshman Joshua Wong (Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) was defeated by #5-seeded Marc Vartabedian from the University of California-Santa Cruz in the Round of 16 in the NCAA Division III Men's Singles bracket at the Ojai Valley Tournament on Saturday, April 24. Vartabedian downed Wong in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
Later in the day, Vartabedian defeated Andrew Giuffrida of California Lutheran University, 6-2, 6-4, in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals, set for Sunday.
Wong finished the season with a 16-6 record in singles. He helped Willamette finish the year at 13-8 in dual matches, including 11-5 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats tied for third place in the NWC and reached the championship match of the NWC Tournament, before losing to nationally-ranked Whitman College.

Joshua Wong finished his freshman season with a 16-6 record in singles.
