Bearcat Track and Field Teams are #3 in West Region Index
SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's and women's track and field teams are ranked #3 in this week's West Region Team Index for NCAA Division III, released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday, May 19. Whitworth University remained #1 in the men's West Region rankings, while California Lutheran University remained #1 in the women's rankings.
The regional index attempts to measure each team's all-around strength in relation to other track and field squads in the same region.
In the women's West Region index, the battle at the top of the rankings has been very close for several weeks. California Lutheran retained the #1 spot this week with 366.25 points.
The University of Redlands (Calif.) moved up one spot to #2 with 365.05 points. Willamette dropped one spot from a week ago and is now #3 with 361.53 points. Claremont-Mudd Scripps stayed at #4 with 359.71 points. Last week, the top four teams all had between 366 and 370 points.
George Fox University's women continue to hold the #5 position in the ranking. They have 327.89 points.
In addition to WU and GFU, three other Northwest Conference teams are listed in the women's West Region Top 10 this week. Whitworth University is #8, Linfield College is #9 and Lewis & Clark College is #10.
The top four positions in the men's West Region index are unchanged from the past five weeks. Whitworth is ranked #1 with 540.01 points. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps follows at #2 with 518.99 points and Willamette holds #3 with 403.45 points. Redlands is the #4 team at 318.39 points. Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) kept the #5 spot for the second consecutive week with 224.18 points.
A total of three NWC teams are listed in the men's West Region Top 10. Whitworth and Willamette are joined by Linfield at #7. George Fox moved out of the Top 10 after holding the #10 position last week.
