Bearcat Women's Team is #2, Men are #3, in West Region Index
SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's track and field team is ranked #2 this week in the West Region Team Index for NCAA Division III as released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday, May 5. The Willamette men's team is ranked #3 in the West Region.
The regional index attempts to measure each team's all-around strength in relation to the other track and field teams in the same region.
In the women's West Region index, California Lutheran University is ranked #1 with 377.65 points. Willamette is #2 with 370.52 points. California Lutheran and Willamette switched places from a week ago, but are separated by just 7.13 points in the rankings.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) is #3 in the women's index at 367.68 points. The University of Redlands (Calif.) follows closely at #4 this week with 366.32 points, just 1.36 points behind CMS. Willamette's NWC rivals from George Fox University slipped two spots this week to #5 with 342.49 points.
Other NWC teams in the women's West Region Top 10 are Whitworth University at #8, Linfield College at #9 and Lewis & Clark College at #10.
The top four positions in the men's West Region index are still unchanged. Whitworth retained its hold on the #1 spot with 541.27 points. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps continued at #2 with 518.49 points. Willamette kept the #3 position with 419.44 points and Redlands stayed #4 at 318.36 points. The University of Laverne (Calif.) advanced three spots to #5 with 223.08 points.
Whitworth and Willamette are joined by two other teams in the men's Top 10 for the West Region. Linfield is ranked #8 and George Fox is ranked #10.
Willamette is scheduled to compete at the Oregon Twilight on Saturday, May 8 in Eugene, Ore. The Bearcats will host the WU Last Chance Meet on Tuesday, May 18 at the Charles Bowles Track in Bush's Pasture Park.
