Willamette Track and Field Teams Maintain Rankings in West Region Index

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University's track and field teams retained their rankings from a week ago in this week's West Region Team Index for NCAA Division III, released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday, May 12. The Willamette women's stayed at #2 in the West Region Index and the Bearcat men's team continued to be ranked #3.

The regional index is an approximate measure each team's all-around strength in relation to other track and field teams in the same region.

In the women's West Region index, California Lutheran University is still #1 and has 369.79 points. Willamette is #2 and trails CLU by just 2.55 points. The Bearcats have 367.24 points in the rankings. Listed at #3 in the West is the University of Redlands (Calif.), up one spot from a week ago with 366.89 points. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) fell one spot to #4 with 366.83 points, just 0.06 behind Redlands. George Fox University remained #5 with 337.55 points.

Other Northwest Conference teams in the women's West Region Top 10 are Whitworth University at #8, Linfield College at #9 and Lewis & Clark College at #10.

The top four positions in the men's West Region index are unchanged from the past four weeks. Whitworth is still #1 with 534.44 points. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps holds the #2 ranking with 512.76 points and Willamette is #3 with 407.53 points. Redlands is listed at #4 with 319.83 points. Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) is now #5 in the West with 224.27 points after moving up one spot from last week.

Whitworth and Willamette are joined in the West Region men's Top 10 by by two other NWC teams. Linfield is ranked #7 and George Fox is listed at #10.

Willamette will host a small meet at the Charles Bowles Track in Bush's Pasture Park on Thursday, May 13. Events will start at 4 p.m. (PDT), with the exception of the hammer throw, which will get underway at 3 p.m. behind the Math Learning Center at 1850 Oxford SE. The Bearcats will host the WU Last Chance Meet on Tuesday, May 18.
