SALEM, ORE. -- Chapman University scored a goal 20:46 into the game and held off Willamette University the rest of the way for a 1-0 victory in women's soccer action at Sparks Field on Friday, Sept. 3. Chapman was playing its season opener and is now 1-0 on the season. Willamette dropped to 0-2, with each loss by a single goal.

Chapman's goal was scored by Aimee Evans. Evans took a shot from 21 yards out that went just over the hands of WU goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Sr., Damascus, OR/Cleveland HS). Gano did not give up a goal the rest of the way and earned five saves in the game.

Willamette had multiple good scoring opportunities late but could not capitalize. Stephanie Skelly (Jr., MF, Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) took five shots, including two on goal. Her shot with 17 minutes remaining in the game was one of Willamette’s best of the night.

Each team attempted ten shots in the game. Willamette earned six corner kicks during the contest.

The Bearcats will play at home again on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 2:30 p.m. against Bethel University (Minn.). This is a time change from the original schedule.
