Women's Golf Opens Season at George Fox Invitational
NEWBERG, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's golf team opened its 2010-11 season at the George Fox Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Chehalem Glenn Golf Course. The host team captured first place with a score of 339. George Fox had four of the top five individual scores en route to its first place finish.
Willamette was led by sophomore Haylee Chung (Hilo, HI/Hilo HS). Chung carded a 102 to finish in 21st place. Chung was followed by fellow sophomore Serena Cualoping (Manila, Philippines/International School). Cualoping achieved a score of 109 and tied for 24th place.
Jessica D'Amato (Fr., Bellevue, WA) and Erin Barclay (Sr., Snohomish, WA/Bothell HS) finished with scores of 113 and 114, respectively.
Willamette concluded the tournament with a team score of 438 and took fifth place. Whitman College (364) placed second and Linfield College (368) finished in third. The Boxers of Pacific University completed the event with a team score of 391 for fourth place. Lewis & Clark College competed with an incomplete roster and did not qualify for the team scoring.
Brianna Nap of George Fox earned medalist honors after carding an 80. Nap finished five strokes ahead of second place finishers Sarah Askin and Kelsey Morrison, both from George Fox. Valerie Kitamori of Pacific placed fourth at 86 and Mandy Cameron of George Fox was fifth at 89.
The Willamette women's golf team will travel north again on Sept. 18 and Sept. 19 to participate in the Pacific Invitational in Banks, Ore. Competition will take place at the Quail Valley Golf Course with action starting at 10 a.m. (PDT).
