Rowing Competes in Collegiate Women's 8+ at Head of the Charles
BOSTON, MASS. -- The Willamette University rowing team competed in its second and final event at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 24. The women's team competed in the Collegiate 8+ race and finished in 19th place in a field of 31 teams.
The women's 8+ team finished the course in a time of 17:55.26. First place went to the Williams College Boat Club. Williams posted a time of 16:24.22. Ithaca College finished in second place with a time of 16:59.52. Williams and Ithaca were the only two teams to complete the course in less than 17 minutes.
The 8+ team was made up of coxswain Linnea Schuster (Sr., Honolulu, HI), stroke seat Kate Pfeiffer (So., Redding, CA), 7 seat Jessie Lovell (So., Edina, MN), 6 seat Marguex Hunter (So., Ridgefield, WA), 5 seat Stina Thorburn (Sr., Boulder, CO), 4 seat Geneva Hooten (Sr., Vancouver, WA), 3 seat Jenna Chiono (So., Summer Lake, OR), 2 seat Sarah Schroeder (Jr., Wilsonville, OR), and bow seat Gwen Hryciw (So., Portland, OR).
On Saturday, Oct. 23 the Willamette women's 4+ finished in 13th place. The Willamette crew finished the course on the Charles River in a time of 21:57.54. The Emory University Crew Club won the race with a time of 20:34.55. Emory just edged Trinity College and the University of Chicago, who completed the course with times of 20:35.22 and 20:35.45.
The women's 4+ team was made up of coxswain Blair Davis (So., Portland, OR), stroke seat Caroline Cahill (So., Maplewood, NJ), 3 seat Lauren Henken (So., Boise, ID), 2 seat Larissa Stiglich (Jr., Vancouver, WA) and bow seat Sarah Ferrier (Jr., Seattle, WA).
The rowing team will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 31 at the Portland Fall Classic. The team will row on the Willamette River. Action will begin at 8 a.m. (PDT).
