Ballinger Named NWC Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week
Wins Three Events, Including a Personal Best in the 200 Freestyle
SALEM, ORE. -- Lauren Ballinger (So., Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee HS) of Willamette University has been chosen Northwest Conference Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in two dual matches.
Ballinger won two events against Pacific University on Friday, Jan. 28, and placed first in one event versus Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Jan. 29.
Against Pacific, Ballinger took first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.88 seconds, as she won the sprint by 2.2 seconds. She also finished first in the 200-yard freestyle by clocking in at 2:02.21 to win a close race by a little more than one-half second. Alex Bing placed second for the Boxers in 2:02.78.
Ballinger recorded a personal-best time of 2:01.84 in the 200-yard freestyle during Willamette's meet with L&C. Her top time made the difference, as she claimed victory by just 0.14 seconds over Kayla Emerson of the Pioneers, who placed second at 2:01.98.
Through action over the weekend, Ballinger is ranked in the Top 20 in the NWC in the 50-yard, 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle events. She is tied for 13th in the 100, is 14th in the 200 and is listed 17th in the 50.
Willamette will return to action on Friday, Feb. 4 with an NWC meet at Linfield College. Meet time is scheduled for 6 p.m. (PST).
