SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University baseball team will have to wait an extra day for the start of the Bearcats' 2011 season. The scheduled season opener, set for Friday, Feb. 18 at Simpson University in Redding, Calif., has been postponed due to the weather.

Willamette and Simpson still hope to complete their four-game series. The teams will play a scheduled double-header on Saturday, Feb. 19, starting at 2 p.m. (PST), and will play another doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 20, beginning at 12 p.m. WU and Simpson were originally scheduled to play a single game on Sunday.

The Bearcats, who compete in NCAA Division III, finished the 2010 season with a 16-22 overall record, including 12-12 in the Northwest Conference (4th place tie). Simpson, which competes in the NAIA, is currently 1-9 on the season after playing a strong early schedule.
