Watilo Honored as NWC Student-Athlete of the Week in Softball
Wins Two Games with a 0.58 Earned Run Average
SALEM, ORE. -- Alex Watilo (Jr., P, Newcastle, CA/Del Oro HS) of Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Softball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week for games played between Feb. 21 and Feb. 27. She pitched in two of the four games in Willamette's NWC series against Pacific University on Saturday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 27.
Watilo earned a 2-0 record for the Bearcats, helping WU split the series. Pacific won the first game each day, but Watilo provided exceptional pitching in the second game each time. She limited the Boxers to one run (unearned) on Saturday in a 3-1 WU victory. She allowed two runs (one earned) on Sunday, as WU prevailed 10-2 on the run rule in 4 1/2 innings.
For the week, Watilo attained a 0.58 earned run average, allowing just two one earned run in 12.0 innings pitched. She registered a total of five strikeouts, while allowing one walk. Pacific achieved a combined seven hits, all singles, in the two games. Watilo held the Boxers to a .163 batting average.
Willamette ended the weekend with a 2-4 overall record and a 2-2 record in the NWC. The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, March 5 with a doubleheader at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. (PST). WU and the Lutes will play a second doubleheader on Sunday, March 6, also at 12 p.m.
