Chung Finishes Third at Willamette Invitational
Kitamori of Pacific Earns Medalist Honors
BANKS, ORE. -- Val Kitamori of Pacific University finished in first place with an 83 at the Willamette Invitational in women's golf on Saturday, March 5 at Quail Valley Golf Course. Haylee Chung (So., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) of Willamette University tied for third place with a score of 99.
Pacific recorded a team score of 387, while Willamette did not field a complete team. The tournament was originally scheduled for Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore., on Feb. 28, but was rescheduled due to the weather.
Kitamori had a solid round, shooting a 40 on the front nine to build a 9-stroke lead, before carding a 43 on the back nine. Her final score of 83 gave her a margin of 12 strokes for the win.
Tami Park, also from Pacific, placed second with a score of 95 (49-46). Chung (51-48) was just two strokes behind Park at the turn and lost an additional two strokes on the back nine. Joining Chung at 99 for the day was Kaci Linton of Pacific (50-49).
Rounding out Pacific's score was Jennifer Carter. She carded a 110 for the Boxers (52-58)
Also competing for Willamette was Serena Cualoping (So., Manila, Philippines/International School). Cualoping shot 113 (55-58).
The next competition for the Bearcats will be the Linfield Invitational on March 26-27. The 36-hole tournament will be held at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville, Ore.
