Schultz Receives Second Team All-WIRA Recognition
Seven-Seat on W2V8+ for Bearcats
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University rower Leslie Schultz (Sr., South Pasadena, CA/South Pasadena HS) has been selected Second Team All-Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (All-WIRA) after competing for the Bearcats in the women's second varsity 8+ at the WIRA Championship Regatta on Sunday, May 1.
Schultz helped the Bearcats finish second in the W2V8+ behind NCAA Division II national powerhouse Western Washington University. WWU took first place with a time of 7:07.2. Willamette, which competes in NCAA Division III, was second at 7:09.9, while Humboldt State University (DII) was third at 7:17.5.
The club team from the University of California - Santa Barbara was fourth with a time of 7:23.1. Mills College (DIII) placed fifth at 7:46.3.
"This spring, Leslie has been a consistent presence in 7-seat of the W2V8, adding tremendous team spirit and technical support of the stroke seat," Willamette Head Coach Susan Parkman said. "Leslie has won this WIRA honor in the past, while competing in both the Lightweight 8 and the 2V8. Leslie, an Exercise Science major, and will be missed on the team as one of four 4-year seniors this year."
