Rowan Named NWC Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week
Averages 37.6 Yards on Punts, Places Three Inside 12-Yard Line
SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior football player Mitch Rowan (PK/P, Cotati, CA/Rancho Cotate HS) has been chosen Northwest Conference Football Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in the Bearcats' victory over Southern Oregon University on Sept. 17. The Bearcats defeated the Raiders, 31-9.
Rowan punted seven times and averaged 37.6 yards per punt, while placing three punts inside the Southern Oregon 12-yard line. His successful pooch kicks went to the 3, 10 and 9-yard lines. During his career, he has placed 35 of 124 punts inside the 20.
Against SOU, only two of his punts were returned by the Raiders. One punt was immediately fumbled and then recovered by the Bearcats, and one punt was returned for eight yards.
Rowan also averaged 62.3 yards on seven kickoffs. His combined kicking and punting efforts helped force the Raiders into an average starting field position of the SOU 28-yard line during the game.
Willamette, 1-2 on the season, has an open date this weekend. The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 in the NWC opener against archrival Linfield College. Game time at McCulloch Stadium in Salem, Ore., is scheduled for 4 p.m. (PDT).
